Without government understanding – the next 12 months could be more critical than 2009.
How seriously has the hospitality industry been
hurt by the economic recession? In some
cases, significantly; with consumer spend down,
operators have had to cut hotel rates and
restaurant prices, offer special deals to generate
footfall and slash costs. Yet the action
taken, combined with good judgment and a measure
of luck, have enabled good businesses to survive
the downturn not only in good spirits but, some,
with protected profits. more |

Hotel Indigo opens second London property
Boutique hotel operator Hotel Indigo - owned by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) - has continued its UK expansion plans with the opening of a new London property.
Located between Aldgate and the Tower of London on Minories, the 44-bedroom Hotel Indigo Tower Hill has been created in a converted office building and is owned by the Thai Square Group.
Facilities at the eight-storey hotel include a bar and two restaurants, with views overlooking Tower Bridge available from the upper floors. It is the second Hotel Indigo to open in the capital.
The Hotel Indigo brand currently operates 34 properties worldwide, with a further 53 planned; four of which will be located in the UK. The first site to open in the capital was in Paddington in January 2009.
IHG president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Kirk Kinsell said: "Hotel Indigo is our youngest brand but it's already proving to be a winning formula.
"The success of the brand lies with the fact that it offers guests the best of both worlds - the individuality and unique design you get at a boutique hotel with the reassurance and benefits of booking with a big hotel group."
Hotel Indigo first launched in Atlanta, US, in 2004, while new UK hotels in Glasgow (96 bedrooms) and Liverpool (151 bedrooms) are set to be completed in spring 2011.
