Active Nation sets 2019 plans in motion to inspire families nationwide

Active Nation has announced exciting plans for its 2019 Active Warrior events, a series of obstacle courses designed to encourage people of all ages and abilities to become active, enjoy the outdoors and take part in challenges.
The 2018 results speak for themselves and spur on the plans for this year's events; over 3,000 Active Warrior participants nationwide, 54% female and 84% attending as part of a family. Children as young as four and couples at 82 years of age took to the obstacle courses. Over 1,000 who, using the Chief Medical Officer's physical activity guidelines, had been labelled 'inactive' – doing less than 30 minutes exercise a week – took part; a huge achievement for all involved.
In collaboration with the 2019 Southampton Healthy Living Festival, Active Nation will create the biggest family leisure event in the city. With over 5,000 people expected to attend on 14th July, the event is set to be one of the biggest family-friendly physical activity showcases of the year. A huge hub of activity will take place in the event village, including a stage and performance arena, free activities, stallholders, health advisors and vendors.
The October 2019 Active Warrior 5km Challenge will now be free for children under 16. For every paying adult, a free place will be awarded, either for the adult to utilise or donate to a local school.
Stuart Martin, Active Nation's Managing Director, confirms: "Our mission is to activate the inactive; we want to get some of the least active, and hardest-to-reach communities on the move. In 2018 we ran five Active Warrior events across the South of England, with record turnouts.
"The inspiration behind Active Warrior comes from the charity's deep rooted belief that together we can fight inactivity, and by embracing our inner warrior spirit we can challenge people in a thrilling and daring manner to see how much fun being active can be."
With only 15 per cent of the UK with a gym membership, Active Warrior breaks down the barriers to the traditional gym setting and puts the fun into fitness for all. At its heart, Active Warrior is designed to be fun, rewarding, and create lasting memories through a series of challenges. Participants will get to climb walls, scramble under cargo nets, leap hurdles, crawl through tunnels, swing on monkey bars and across the summer will wet on the water slide. The events are characterised against three challenge levels:
Family challenge includes both Active Warrior Rainbow Rampage and the festive Santa Dash. Set in beautiful parkland, the family challenge sends participants over 5kms of 20+ obstacles. Participation is what's important; there's no pressure to complete every obstacle, or to finish. It's about teamwork, building confidence and showing people that activity can be fun. Family challengers start as young as 4 – the oldest participants to date being an 82-year-old couple.
Challenge is a 5K obstacle course, with something for everyone. The first wave is always a race, then come the adult team waves, and finally the family waves. Set in beautiful parkland, these events appeal to the whole population.
Active Warrior Games presents the competitive element of the series. Mixing obstacle course racing with functional fitness challenges, competitors race against the clock, and each other, through timed fitness challenges designed to test the whole body.
