Extra space approved for Trocadero's LDN pod hotel

Plans for a Japanese-style pod hotel and rooftop bar at London's historic Trocadero complex have been approved by Westminster City Council (WCC).
The council's planning committee gave the green light to Criterion Capital's plans for the hotel, which will offer accommodation in 583 bedrooms measuring between 9sq m and 17sq m (97sq ft and 183sq ft).
Plans to create a 495-bedroom hotel at The Trocadero were originally granted planning permission in 2010.
The current proposals for the LDN hotel have added 88 rooms and the rooftop bar within a space previously occupied by Funland, an amusement arcade acquired by Criterion in 2005 that was phased out and finally closed in 2011.
WCC's Heather Acton said: "This scheme will help to breathe new life into one of London's most famous buildings.
"The Trocadero is historically renowned for bringing entertainment to the city, and a new concept hotel will form a very welcome addition to the area, enabling more people to enjoy the vibrant West End for shopping, entertainment and culture."
Since the late 1600s, The Trocadero has housed tennis courts, theatres, restaurants, hotels and music halls. In the late 1990s, the Trocadero became home to the first 3D IMAX cinema in the UK and a large amusement arcade called Segaworld, which became Funland in 1999.
