Job description:
Position Summary:
Responsible for the efficient management of commercial areas within SEA LIFE® aquarium. The areas of responsibility are the Ocean Journey Café, the Retail gift shop and the after-hours in-house cleaning crew. This position is responsible for operating budget adherence and revenue generation, as well as the management and development of all MCs working in these areas. This position will work closely with LEGOLAND® California Resort F&B, Retail, Hotel, and PR management to explore and implement programs while generating additional revenue to the SEA LIFE® aquarium. The position is also the Safety Ambassador for the SLA – making sure that all depts. are in compliance with Resort safety policies.

Main Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for training, development, performance management, team building, and other people management activities. Develops departmental staff plan based on general budget guidelines. Promotes and demonstrates the Merlin and LEGO® values and culture through words and actions.
2. Ensures that locations of responsibility maintain exceptional guest service, safety and cleanliness standards.
3. Controls operating expenses for OJC and SEA LIFE® gift shop.
4. Responsible for comparing actual and budgeted commercial figures on a daily basis and acting upon them. Oversees ordering, waste and usage of all goods.
5. Works closely with LLCR/SLA Buyer(s) to maximize sales and keep inventory at acceptable levels. Oversees receiving/approval all deliveries and invoices while documenting breakages or losses correctly. Keep stock rooms organized and secure at all times.
6. Ensures that each commercial location promotes the sale of all goods in order to meet forecasted SPH figures. Sets up-selling goals for location teams.
7. Communicates operational and financial objectives to the staff on a daily basis.
8. Monitors labor hours and ensures that payroll reports are accurate.
9. Monitors handling of cash and inventory control, referring any issues for investigation to SEA LIFE® Manager and/or LP. Acts as a key contact and training leader in all areas of loss prevention and waste, in accordance with Merlin and LEGOLAND® policies.
10. Ensure the OJC meets the highest food quality and cleanliness standards through the use of regular internal audits.
11. Works with Marketing/PR and SEA LIFE® Manager to ensure that commercial promotions are explored and implemented.
12. Assist with special events and other activities as required; work with SEA LIFE® Management team to promote and obtain special event business.
13. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, work well under pressure, juggle multiple priorities, exercise good judgment and meet deadlines with professionalism.
14. Builds strong working relationships with all vendors/suppliers.
15. Organizes and holds regular briefings and meetings for all MCs. Is responsible for the accuracy and security of all personnel files, training information and attendance records.
16. Participates in the Park Duty Manager program as necessary.
17. Other duties as assigned.

Background and Experience:
Requires two years supervisory experience in a commercial location (F&B and/or Retail). Must have a proven track record in people development and leadership skills. Experience with theme Park commercial operations is preferred. Thorough knowledge of cash handling and inventory/sales auditing is required. Reasonable knowledge of point of sale automated systems is required. Experience in food and culinary design with knowledge of restaurant operations (specifically LLCR) is highly preferred. Must possess strong communication skills, both in verbal and written format. Must be customer service focused and have an understanding of customer expectations. Ability to use office equipment, word processing and spreadsheet systems.

About The Role
The Curator assists the General Manager and Merlin Animal Welfare Division with the management, organization and continued development of the displays team. The Curator achieves high standards of display presentation and animal husbandry and supervises the displays team, assisting with routine maintenance and animal husbandry issues.

Responsibilities:
* Supervises day-to-day activities of all aquarists and divers
* Directs exhibit upkeep, animal husbandry practices, sets aquarist work schedules, and assists with department budget planning and spending
* Assists in the continual development and strategic planning of the displays areas in line with the long term goals of the company
* Manages all husbandry and life support of aquarium systems
* Oversees daily care of animal exhibits including diet preparation, feeding and general care, and maintenance of aquatic exhibits in accordance with established protocols
* Ensure that correct levels of livestock and key species are maintained in all displays through proactive collection planning
* Participates in specimen transports, water quality testing, quarantine, diagnosis and treatment of fish disease
* Maintains accurate daily records for aquarium systems and exhibit specimens
* Plans and facilitates professional development and training for aquarist staff
* Communicate and liaise with the Merlin Animal Welfare Division, veterinarians and Biological Services, as directed
* Ensures effective planning and implementation of routine maintenance of displays and life support systems
* Maintains strict codes of practice for the administration and storage of all medical treatments
* Ensure that accurate and up to date displays records are complete for all displays and livestock, including deliveries, collections, mortalities, feeding and associated matters.
* Ensure and maintain continually high levels of cleanliness of all the displays, quarantine and food preparation areas, plus associated plant and workshops.
* Ensures that the statutory regulations both state and federal, e.g., OSHA are maintained for displays areas
* Adheres to all state and federal standards for the State’s Zoo Licence as well as AZA standards
* Ensures that all licenses/regulations associated with livestock acquisition (i.e. State Game and Fish Dept., USFW), holding, display and transportation, are met and adhered to
* Ensure displays budgets are operated within monthly and yearly constraints.
* Assist the General Manager in the generation of the annual displays budgets and capital expenditures
* Initiates and continually updates the displays development plan for the site
* Play a key role in any displays related capital works from concept creation through to completion and continual operation
* Carry out and/or oversee any specific research and development projects to improve animal husbandry and the onsite displays as directed by the General Manager and in conjunction with the Merlin Animal Welfare Division/Biological Services.
* Represent the site within the North American SEA LIFE Curator community in functions such as regional collection planning, and dive safety
* Motivates and trains the displays staff on the local site

About You
* Undergraduate degree in Life Sciences
* Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience of aquatic animal care in a professional aquarium environment
* Minimum 3 to 4 years of managerial experience supervising teams and individuals, preferably in a professional aquarium environment
* Advanced open water SCUBA certification
* Proven knowledge of the maintenance and operation of large life support systems including, but not limited to, sand filters, canister filters, UV sterilizers, protein skimmers, and ozone generators
* Ability to obtain Rescue Diver Certification within 90 days of hire
* Aquarium dive program management skills and experience preferred
* Advanced knowledge and experience working with a wide variety of tropical and temperate marine and freshwater specimens including, but not limited to, sharks, rays, jellies, corals, seahorses, cephalopods, and turtle.
* Advanced knowledge and experience in the quarantine, diagnosis and treatment of fish disease.
* Strong water quality testing and record keeping skills
* Ability to obtain and hold a current First Aid and CPR certification

Conservation and Learning and Discovery Manager, SEA LIFE US

We are currently recruiting for a Conservation and Learning and Discovery Manager for SEA LIFE (US), although the exact location within the US is flexible. The key aspects of this role are to develop and implement the conservation and learning and discovery programs, which will add to and help deliver fun and entertaining experiences for our visitors, engage our staff, and underpin the SEA LIFE brand. These programs will also specifically support the attainment of SEA LIFE’s business goals, and proactively position SEA LIFE as a world-leader of aquatic animal displays through positive impacts in the natural world.

In partnership with key stakeholders you will assist in the development of the global strategy, and lead the implementation of the US regional strategy, which will incorporate the building of SEA LIFE’s conservation, education and scientific research credentials through active and coordinated programming. This will include the development of meaningful metrics to monitor and ensure success, allowing SEA LIFE to demonstrate its impact in these areas, regionally and across the globe.

Duties will also include maintaining up-to-date records of the scale, scope and impacts of the conservation, education and research programs at each of the eight sites across the US, developing and providing relevant training for site-based staff, responding to needs and support the SEA LIFE Trust, the Board of Conscience and the Ethical Review Board. You will provide the SEA LIFE Head of Region (to whom you will report), Divisional Director, and associated regional managers with timely data and analyses.

- Bachelor’s degree in science or a related field
- Proven experience developing, implementing and monitoring conservation, education and/or research programs in an informal science learning environment
