Are you passionate about conservation and creating incredible guest experiences? Do you want to work in an exciting and ‘very cool’ environment in one of Melbourne’s most loved attractions? Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is an awe-inspiring experience with interactive exhibits that transport visitors from the underwater seahorse kingdom of our local Port Phillip Bay to the icy plateaus of Antarctica.

About the Role
We have an amazing opportunity for you to join our team here at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium as a Full Time Assistant Bird Keeper. This is an 11 month maternity cover role.

As an Assistant Bird Keeper you will assist with the care, well being and general husbandry of the King and Gentoo Penguins, within the Curatorial team. Key duties will include assisting to ensure a high level of animal health and welfare, feeding, cleaning, record keeping and monitoring of life support systems. This position also has diving responsibilities when required.

This role will be covering a Tuesday through Saturday rotation, so the ability to work weekends is essential. Additional days may be required.

About You
The ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for guest experience, conservation and a focus on fun.

Holding a degree in Zoology or similar, you will also have experience in animal husbandry (preferably birds) and maintaining daily contact with a living collection of plants and animals in a varied building climate. Experience in Life Support Systems is essential.

You will be an exceptional communicator and are able to use your vast work experience to work well in a successful, fast paced team. This role does involve cleaning the exhibit and restocking of snow daily, so some level of physical fitness is also required.

Your ability to multi-task and have a flexible and adaptable approach along with high attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines and have demonstrated planning, organisational and time management skills are desired.
