Job purpose
You as the Route Setting coordinator will be responsible for ongoing high standards and development of the Westways Climbing centre. Ensuring customers’ needs are met and setters are used efficiently. Additionally you will be responsible for a program of events to bolster the commercial dynamism of the Climbing department. You will be reporting to and working alongside the Head of Climbing.

Principal accountabilities:

Route setting Program
• Construct, and maintain a route setting program, 8 weeks in advance
• Ensures that the most appropriate setters are used for suitable sets
• Ensure a diverse range of setters are used
• Maintain the high quality of route setting that Westway is known for.
• Endeavour to have a consistent grading in the centre.

Budget control
• To construct and maintain a route setting program that runs to budget
• Purchasing power for new holds, volumes and equipment needed for route setting program.

Health and Safety
• Make sure adequate controls are in place to ensure the safety of Customers, Colleagues and Route setters
• Test and maintain records of all Route setters compliance with method statements
• Assist in the ongoing Risk Assessing of all aspects of route setting. • Maintain checks on all Route setting equipment
• Work with the Climbing Facilities Manager and Head Coach to ensure that routes setting does not impinge upon the normal day to day running of the centre.

Develop a Junior route setting program
• Create/Deliver and execute a program of training in order to provide route setting experience and training to members of the junior development program.

Training
• Be responsible for the ongoing training of colleagues in order to maintain a high level of route setting quality.
• Assist Climbing Facilities Manager in providing training to DMs and route setters, in accordance with route setter rescues.

Logistics
• Stripping coordination
• Hold Washing coordination
• Maintain and develop effective hold storage

Events
• To develop internal competitions and events focused on developing additional offerings to our customer base.
• Assist in the facilitation of external events
• Commercially push and diversify the product offered by the Westway Climbing department.

Communication
• Develop and progress effective communication lines with our customer base on the route setting program.
• Maintain communication between all managers in climbing department to ensure smooth operation of site.

Route setting
• To maintain 2 days a week route setting
• Lead by example and ensure professional setting levels are maintained
• Testing and tweaking for major sets
