An opportunity has arisen for the position of Active Leeds Development Officer focused on health. We aim to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience of developing physical activity interventions. Working closely with Adults and Health Services, the team aims to embed skills and knowledge in local communities to support individual and groups to become physically activity. This exciting and challenging role requires the ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and understand how to put theory into practice. The role will support the delivery of the vision for Active Leeds, “Leeds to be the best city in the UK to be active in.”

Purpose of the Job will be:

- Support Active Leeds in developing the physical activity ambition for the city.
- Actively promote and advocate health based physical opportunities to the residents of Leeds.
- Support the Health Programmes team to the deliver commissioned physical activity programmes.
- Develop health pathways that use physical activity as a method of self-managing health conditions or preventing health condition occurring.
- Engage communities, professionals and organisations by delivering training around the benefits for physical activity and how people can access suitable opportunities in their local area.
- Embed physical activity into everyday life within communities using the principles of the ABCD model.
- Lead on collaboration projects with a range of Adult and Health Services.

You should possess:

A track record of developing physical activity interventions and understand how to embed these in local communities, have experience of leading a small team to deliver projects and commissioned activities and the ability to develop services to allow communities to deliver their own activities.

Understanding of behaviour change in terms of physical activity, techniques in supporting people to change their behaviour, understanding barriers to physical activity and the promotion of health interventions to target audiences. The role will require an understanding of long term health conditions, the impact of frailty in populations and how physical activity can support self-management and help prevent social isolation.

The successful applicant should hold a professional qualification in physical activity, sport or health and hold qualifications to deliver an education programme to build skills in communities or individuals such as Walk Leader Training or Make Every Contact Counts.

Experience should include working with local communities using ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) model, project management of a range of physical activity or health programmes, working towards mobilizing effective partnerships that can support the embedding of physical activity at all levels within organisations, policies and strategies.
