The Royal Observatory is introducing an exciting new Green Screen photographic experience to our iconic site. We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic Visitor and Sales Assistants to engage with our visitors and encourage them purchase a unique souvenir of their visit.

Job description: Visitor and Sales Assistant

The Visitor and Sales Assistant role provides an exceptional visitor experience for all visitors to Royal Museums Greenwich (RMG). The role welcomes visitors on arrival, encourages them to learn about and engage with the collections and have an enjoyable visit to all RMG sites. The post holder will support RMG in the delivery of its commercial objectives by developing product knowledge, outstanding selling skills and achieving sales targets.

Job purpose:
The Visitor and Sales team is responsible for delivering the Admissions, Retail and Visitor Experience services to the highest possible standard, by putting visitors first and promoting RMG’s brand values.

Reports to: Visitor and Sales Managers

Core responsibilities
• Welcome all visitors on arrival and provide advice, guidance and information to enhance their experience
• Engage with visitors, enabling them to explore and enjoy the galleries by interpreting themes clearly and accurately
• Actively drive the commercial activity of RMG by promoting and selling souvenir guides, admission and exhibition tickets, and retail products to enhance the visitor experience
• Actively encourage donations from visitors to all RMG sites
• Support and facilitate activities and events being held by other departments such as Learning, Events and Curatorial
• Take responsibility for developing knowledge of gallery content, RMG activities and retail products
• Maintain merchandising and replenishment standards at shops and admissions desks
• Provide front of house security to the collections and retail product including security checks, lockdown procedures and dealing with incidents
• Ensure the cleanliness and good presentation of the sites
• Have exceptional standards of personal presentation, wearing specified uniform and ID at all times
• Be aware of and adhere to RMG procedures and policies
• Follow all cash handling and financial procedures
• Work at any of the RMG sites
• Work as part of a team to promote the RMG values
• Perform any other duties as reasonably requested.

• An enthusiasm and passion for the collections and themes of Royal Museums Greenwich
• An understanding and ability to sell products and meet sales targets
• Reliable and flexible
• A great team player

Desirable
• Experience in a customer service or sales environment
• Good IT skills
• Cash handling experience
• Foreign language skills
• First aid qualification

Terms & Conditions
Based mainly at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. We have both permanent and fixed term contracts to cover the summer. We have full time, part time and weekend only positions, which are outlined below.

Full Time and Part Time Positions
Networking hours (i.e. excluding 1 hour per day in rest breaks) will be 33.75 per week, with shifts between 8am and 8pm including weekends and bank holidays. Normal daily hours worked are 6.75 hours. Shifts will be variable and subject to operational requirements.

We also have part-time positions available.

Salary: £15,856 per annum

Weekend Position
Networking hours (i.e. excluding 1 hour per day in rest breaks) will be 13.5 per week, with shifts between 8am and 8pm including Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Normal daily hours worked are 6.75 hours. Shifts will be variable and subject to operational requirements.

Salary: £6,342 pro rata, £15,856 per annum
