The role of Zookeeper is a rewarding position, allowing you to be involved in the development of the animal program at Plantasia. The role provides opportunities and an exciting and motivating experience on a daily basis. The successful candidate will be appointed to under take all aspects of animal husbandry, care and development of the Animal Collection at Plantasia.

The Opportunity
To provide all aspects of animal care and husbandry in compliance with the Zoo Licence Act.
To undertake cleaning, maintenance and improvement of all animal enclosures and areas.
To assist the Education/project Department in the provision of animal related tours, workshops and events.
To assist with the development and interpretation of the animal experience to the public
To carry out mechanical plant and equipment checks, upkeep and monitoring of environmental systems and report as necessary.
To provide cover for the Front of House section when necessary.
To maintain the security of the collection and building.
To undertake the personal Health and Safety responsibilities within the HASAWA Act 1974
To assist in the development of Managerial Initiatives, e.g. Investors in People, Management Charter Initiative, Performance Management and Appraisal, Continuous Professional Development, etc
Any other duties as reasonably required.

The Person
Willing to work in an animal related environment
Will be able to gain acceptance and respect from clients and the teams involved
Will be able to meet the demands of the role by working additional hours when required.
Will be able to demonstrate clear identification with all customer requirements
Will be a team player.
Will be able to develop the role on your own initiative.

A high degree of flexibility
The ability to respond positively to changes in the working environment and to deal effectively with work pressures as they arise.
The ability to solve work problems logically and make decisions appropriate to the level of the post
Confident, outgoing personality and the ability to communicate with the public in both educational and entertaining manner
Essential - The candidate must possess an animal related degree, minimum 2:1 qualification
Essential - Practical experience in animal husbandry for a minimum of 4 years
Desirable - Practical experience with exotic animals.
Essential - Full UK Driving Licence
