At Sandown Sports, it is the people that make us stand out. Sandown Sports is a gym and fitness club with squash, indoor cycling, a dry ski slope and a recently opened tree top adventure course.

As a Duty Manager, you will be working 42.5 hours per week, including weekends and evenings so flexibility is key. The club is open from 0600 to 2300 during the week so you will be sharing a rota with other duty managers. We also host functions that will require additional assistance with organisation and working hours.

Sandown Sports has recently been taken over and there is much improvement to the facilities already completed, underway and planned for the future. The atmosphere is vibrant with excellent career prospects. Whilst this is maternity cover there is a real likelihood the right candidate would continue to work for us past the cover date.

You will report to the Club Manager and your day will involve day-to-day management of the facility, taking responsibility at key times, customer care, managing bookings etc. We are looking for people with experience and a good knowledge of the sports and leisure industry and/or events, functions and catering.

The First Aid at Work qualification is preferable and this position is subject to a DBS check.

The position is offered at £18,785 per annum (pro rata for maternity cover). Perks include free membership and access to all our sports facilities when off shift.

As well as the fantastic swimming facilities there is also a superb Fitness Centre incorporating a new state-of-the-art 130 station Gym, Health Suite, and two Dance Studio’s, as well as a café/bar area.

An opportunity has arisen to appoint Sway Dance Instructors to deliver our Sway Dance sessions to children between 2 and 15 years old. Sway Dance is an energetic dance brand that offers excellent teaching in an environment where smiling is as important to us as the dancing itself. We feel that enjoyment is the very foundations which make Sway Dance so special.

We are looking for teachers to deliver Street Dance, Ballet or Contemporary Dance.

The role will report directly to the Fitness & Sway Dance Manager and will involve taking classes within the Centre as and when required to cover sickness and annual leave. We also run classes in local primary schools, so you may be required to deliver classes from Primary Schools also.

Please be aware that you will need to be able to travel to the Primary Schools. The current school we deliver classes at is Whitchurch Primary.

You must a be a strong communicator to your team, be a good organiser with meticulous planning and attention to detail. It is essential that you are a strong leader and good at directing your team but also a team player.

We need someone with experience in Duty Management who can inspire and motivate the team yet retain a hands-on approach to the operations.

The role requires someone who is commercially minded with the ability to demonstrate a track record of developing efficient and cost effective processes and that you have first class communication skills.

You will be expected to assist at the Town Council events (approx. 4 per year) – Music Festival, Fireworks etc

Package description
- Mon – Sun 8.30am to 10pm (variable hours 37 per week)
- Salary £17,500 - £20,000 depending on experience
- Pension – Local Government Pension Scheme
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (or TOIL instead of them)

Birchwood Leisure Centre has 4 badminton courts/multi-use sports hall, a small gym, pilates studio, a 3G astro, indoor soft play and the Town Council also hires out its other four halls for leisure activities, meetings and functions.
