UCLanSport offers Master's programmes in:
MSc Sports Therapy
This programme is suitable for graduates with a previous degree in sports science or related subject, wishing to develop therapeutic skills for use within a sport and exercise background. It is designed to build upon knowledge of principles of sports science and fitness training, with the addition of therapeutic and rehabilitation skills necessary to become a sports therapist. The course has been developed with the Society of Sports Therapists. Successful completion enables full membership of the society and hence the professional indemnity insurance necessary for practice. The aim of the course is to synthesise therapeutic skills in: sports first aid, soft tissue massage, the early management of injury, exercise and rehabilitation, manual therapy and electrotherapy, with previous sports and exercise knowledge.
Students are able to work in the University Sports Clinic.
MSc Sports Therapy Professional Practice
This programme provides the graduate Sports Therapist/ Sports Rehabilitator with the opportunity to enhance their professional knowledge and skills and keep abreast of new developments and concepts. It is designed for those graduates who are self-employed and managing their own sports injury clinics or those who wish to become self-employed as therapists.
Study can be designed around your clinical and sports interests and requirements and does not require you to attend the University on a regular basis. You will be encouraged to undertake continuing professional development courses (CPD) courses that will facilitate your professional development and be required to demonstrate through a process of reflection how this course has initiated change in your professional practice.
Sports Therapy and Physiotherapy degrees are also available at undergraduate level.
Our academic staff have an excellent research profile, allied to considerable experience of working within the sport and exercise industry. The knowledge and experiences gained are used within the curriculum to ensure that learning is stimulating, creative, challenging and highly relevant.
We work with industry partners such as Sport England, British Cycling and Preston North End and our partnership with a rugby Super League team, makes us the "Official University of Wigan Warriors RLFC".
