Arena Leisure has announced that Tandridge District Council has granted its plans to redevelop Lingfield Park Racecourse in Surrey, without being called in by the secretary of state.

The £25m plans include a 120-room hotel, new golf facilities and clubhouse, new stables, stadia, as well as bars and restaurants.

Mark Elliott, chief executive of Arena Leisure, said: “We worked very hard to develop a scheme for Lingfield Park Racecourse that complemented its picturesque surroundings and, most importantly, enhanced the experience of its customers.

“We are therefore delighted that the Government Office for the South East (GOSE), on behalf of the secretary of state, has accepted the plans.

Planning permission is still subject to finalising legal agreements with the council and the approval of a reserved matters application.

Arena Leisure is the UK’s largest operator of horseracing fixtures and owns seven courses in the country. Details: www.lingfield-racecourse.co.uk
