Following an epic week at MIPIM, the 25th MIPIM Award winners were announced last night – 12 March.

Leisure architecture once again proved to be a frontrunner, with five leisure buildings being recognised:

• Center Parcs Woburn Forest, designed by Holder Mathias Architects, in Bedfordshire UK, won the Best Hotel & Tourism Resort Award. Since it’s opening back summer of 2014, Centre Parcs has been causing a stir in the spa world, and it comes as no surprise that this development has been given the award. Holder Mathias design settles perfectly into the surrounding woodland and provides an excellent holiday destination.

• The Best Shopping Centre award went to Markthal Rotterdam, designed by MVRDV. Set in the heart of Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the innovative shopping centre is a covered food market with 228 apartments built into its vast structure. Inside, walls and ceilings are covered with LEDs to create an adaptable and versatile space. It was also mentioned on the Designs of the Year 2015 shortlist .

• Boulevard Euromediterranée – Marseille, France's, new waterfront was awarded the Best Urban Regeneration Project. Designed by Ateliers Lion – Ilex – Kern et Associés architects, the development offers a new promenade, an overall regeneration of Marseille’s waterfront and exciting new public spaces for the all to enjoy.

• The Best Futura Project award went to Cité musicale départementale de l’Ile Seguin, Boulogne-Billancourt, France – designed by Shigeru Ban Architects in conjunction with Jean de Gastines Architects. Currently under construction, this project will see the creation of a new auditorium with 1,110 seats, rehearsal spaces, public areas and retail offerings. It’s scheduled for a 2016 opening.

• The final leisure project to receive an award was the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. Given the Special Jury Award, the development in the UK's capital has been worked on by Erect Architects with LUC landscape architects, James Corner Field Operations and Make Architects.

Following the 2012 London Olympics, the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has a huge role to play for the capital's Olympic legacy; with ongoing plans to transform the 560 acre site into usable space, the area is set to become a social, economic and cultural hub, attracting a lot of investment, with many projects already on the boards.

The winners of the other categories are as follows:

• Best Industrial & Logistics Development award - Würth Svenska AB in Örebro, Sweden by White Arkitekter, with developers Würth Svenska AB.

• Best Innovative Green Building Award went to Sydney's One Central Park. This residential development was designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and PTW Architects. The developers are Frasers Property Australia and Sekisui House Australia.

• Best Refurbished Building Award was given to Dreischeibenhaus in Dusseldorf, Germany. The office development was designed by HPP Hentrich – Petschnigg & Partner GmbH + Co. KG and was backed and developed by the MOMENI Group.

• Best Residential Development went to Krøyers Plads I in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects & COBE Architects.

• Best Futura Mega Project was awarded to New North Zealand Hospital, Denmark. It was designed by Herzog & de Meuron with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.

• The People’s Choice Award was given to the Oxygen Eco-tower in Jakarta, Indonesia. Envisaged by architects and engineers, Progetto CMR Engineering Integrated Services S.r.l. for developers Bimantra Citra, the project sets the bar high for the future of green residential living.
