A piece of Thailand in central London
A tranquil Thai haven can be found in the City of London with the opening of the Elephant Royale restaurant. Following from the first operation in Essex, the 140-cover restaurant has been established by restaurateurs Peter Yeung, Richard Foo, Johnny Cheung and Ken Teo to bring 'the heart of Thailand' to the heart of London's Docklands area. Average spend is £32 a head and diners can enjoy delights imported direct from Thailand and served in front of a giant wooden Buddha. An adjacent bamboo-lined cocktail bar serves traditional Thai cocktails such as the Chi Chi, made with coconut, vodka, cointreau and rum, and the Mai Tai, with rum, mai tai mix and fresh lime juice. Former Assistant Manager of Bangkok in South Kensington and co-owner and manager of the first Elephant Royale, Richard Foo is managing the London operation, and Ken Teo is head chef.
