Athens leisure development unveiled
Miller Hughes Associates has unveiled new plans for the largest ever brownland regeneration project in Athens.
The 60 hectare site in the port area of Piraeus, is currently a degraded industrial landscape, but will be transformed into a mixed-use scheme including 100,000sq m of retail and leisure space and a 700-bed hotel, with adjoining national conference centre.
The project is a collaboration between three major landowners - Aget Herakles, the National Bank of Greece, and BP.
The project comes as a major part of the regeneration of the Greek capital before the city hosts the Olympic games in 2004.
Charles Hughes, director of the project said: Many of the millions of visitors will access the Games through the port of Piraeus. This will establish Piraeus as an international waterside destination.
