BHA lobbies parliamentary candidates
With the election campaign underway, the British Hospitality Association has sent an 11-point manifesto to all the parliamentary candidates. Concerned that incoming tourism to the UK has been static for many years, the BHA calls on the government not to introduce any more homegrown employment laws, to reassess the high rate of VAT on accommodation and restaurant meals and to provide better support for the British Tourist Authority. BHA chief executive, Bob Cotton, says the manifesto emphasises how important tourism is to the UK economy: The foot and mouth crisis has emphasised this, but we must not let the government forget its commitment to the industry after the election. Tourism and hospitality needs continuing government support to enable it to reach its full potential as a key economic contributor. It should not be held back by more and more regulations and higher taxes.
