CCPR launches sports manifesto
England has come second to last in an analysis of sports funding in Europe. According to the Central Council for Physical Recreation, England is 11 out of 12, spending a miserly £1 per person, compared to £7.90 in Germany and £5.20 in France. England even lags behind Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. These findings were published at the same time as the CCPR's Sports Manifesto, Active Britain, which calls for the junior position of Minister for Sport to be upgraded to the Cabinet. It also wants to see the introduction of further measures to arrest the sale of sports pitches, greater priority for youth sport in schools, tax incentives to stage sports events in Britain and greater support for countryside recreation following the foot and mouth outbreak.
