Camelot, the operator of the National Lottery, has announced it has successfully reached its £750m fundraising target for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The figure relates to sales from specifically-designated Lottery games and has been attained ahead of schedule. It forms part of a wider £2.2bn contribution towards the 2012 Games.

Meanwhile, Camelot has also reported record returns to National Lottery Good Causes and prize payouts to players after achieving its highest ever ticket sales during 2011-12.

It means that more than £28bn has been distributed to Good Causes since the launch of the Lottery in 1994, with 2011-12 boosted by two "exceptional" EuroMillions jackpots.

Camelot UK Lotteries managing director Andy Duncan said: "I'm delighted to announce that we've hit our £750m funding target for London 2012 ahead of schedule.

"It's part of an overall Lottery contribution of up to £2.2bn towards the Games - making it the largest-ever Lottery-funded project to date and one that will leave a lasting sporting legacy for the entire UK."
