Cinema opportunities in Eastern Europe
Box office takings in central and eastern Europe are forecast to rise by 80 per cent by 2005 according to a new report, Cinemagoing Central and Eastern Europe published by film industry consultants, Dodona Research. Higher ticket prices and increased admissions are expected to push the region's box office takings up from US$160m in 2000 to US$290m in 2005. Poland and Hungary are currently the largest markets, but strong competition and heavy investment could lead to over-screening in Budapest and Warsaw. Dodona believes there are good opportunities in Croatia and Romania. Report author, Karsten-Peter Grummitt, says the region needs good quality cinemas in more locations. Ster Century, IT International Theatres and Intercom are all making inroads into this market. Details: 0116 285 4550
