Glee at Welsh club launch
Wales' first comedy venue, The Glee Club, has just opened at the Mermaid Quay development in Cardiff Bay. Owned by Comic Enterprises, the £1m Glee Club is a sister site to the Birmingham venue and twice its size, covering 9,100sq ft with a capacity for 480. The club anticipates around 40,000 visitors in its first year. Comic Enterprises' managing director, Mark Tughan, who left his job as a merchant banker in 1994 to establish the Birmingham site, says the club is multi-faceted: The Glee Club aims to cater for a more sophisticated consumer who wants to laugh, eat, drink, dance and be entertained at a quality venue amongst a mixed group of friends. This is the launch of mainstream comedy for Cardiff and we are really encouraged by the feedback already. Celebrities helped raise the roof at the club's charity launch, raising more than £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
