Guy Hands tells tourism industry to 'stand up for itself'
Guy Hands, managing director of Nomura International's Principal Finance Group, has called on the tourism industry to stand up for itself. Hands was speaking at Springboard UK's Call to Action event at the Chelsea Village Hotel, set up as a catalyst to inject more passion and pride into the tourism industry. It is a £51bn business and is growing by six per cent per annum. What other part of the UK economy can claim that? These are dynamic sectors, which need and deserve to attract the very best people. There is a wealth of professional roles to be had in this business, but we need to be effectively communicating this for the benefit of both the industry and for those looking for a rewarding career. The Call to Action event was also used as a platform to launch the Springboard UK Careers Festival 2001, nationwide from 15-22 October.
