A new specialist gymnastics hall has officially opened at the Woodlands School and Sports College in Coventry, which will be the new home of three local gymnastics clubs.

The £5m development incorporates a four badminton court sports hall, with a full range of specialist gymnastics equipment.

The development was financed by the New Opportunities Fund PE and school sport programme – which is now known as the Big Lottery Fund.

Matt Isherwood, director of sport at the Woodlands School and Sports College, said: "This phenomenal facility is the product of three years of work by the project team. Both the school and the local sporting community are extremely excited by the prospect of what the facility will enable the young people of Coventry to achieve."

Councillor Gary Ridley, cabinet member for culture, leisure and libraries added: "I'm delighted to see another high quality addition to the city's sporting facilities, particularly one which will provide specialist equipment for our city's gymnasts."

The three local clubs to be based at the centre are Coventry Olympic Gymnastics Club, City of Coventry Gymnastics Club and the Galaxy Trampolining Club.
