Dutch brewery Heineken has expressed an interest in bidding for Bass Brewers following the DTI's decision that Interbrew's £2.3bn acquisition was against public interest. Speaking following the publication of Heineken's results, chief executive Karel Vuursteen confirmed that he was interested in some or 'maybe' all of the Bass brewing business. Other interested parties include South African Breweries, however, the sale would be delayed if the Belgian government challenges the DTI's ruling at the European Court of Justice as it announced last week. If the DTI's ruling remains in place, Analysts believe that Interbrew will have to sell the Bass business for considerably less than the £2.3bn acquisition price.
