Jurys acquires Birmingham's largest hotel
Dublin-based hotel group, Jurys Doyle, has bought Birmingham's largest group of independent hotels, The Chamberlain Group, including the city's biggest room the 445-bed Chamberlain Tower Hotel. Formerly the BT tower, the Chamberlain Hotel opened in 1999 after a £12.5m conversion and will now be rebranded as the Jurys Birmingham Inn. The deal also includes the 250-bed Chamberlain Park hotel, the first in the group to open in 1993. Joel Goldman, director of Chesterton's Licensed, Leisure and Hotels division which acted for Chamberlain in the sale, commented: Apart from catapulting Jurys into a dominant local market position virtually overnight, the sale will also mean that the Chamberlain Tower will become the largest Jurys Inn in the UK. The deal, worth an estimated £42m, is part of Jurys' strategy for major UK expansion. Jurys owns 31 hotels, 11 of which are in the UK.
