Kick off for football museum
The National Football Museum in Preston will have its official opening next week by HRH Duke of Kent. Footballing legends Sir Tom Finney and Sir Bobby Charlton will join senior figures from FIFA, the FA at the museum's official launch after its 'soft opening' to the public in February. Features of the museum include nine collections of footballing memorabilia, including the FIFA collection with the world's oldest international football shirt dating from 1872 to interactive displays including a Match of the Day Studio where visitors can join Gary Lineker in a post-match analysis. Marketing manager Mark Bushell says that the official launch signals a strategic campaign to exceed the annual 100,000 visitor target: In July we will be adding to the collections to step up the level of interest, not just nationally but globally as the museum is the biggest and most significant footballing museum in the world.
