An extensive array of representatives from the leisure industry are among the 965 that have been recognised for their contribution in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours List.

StreetGames chief executive officer Jane Ashworth is one of the figures to receive an OBE, along with England cricket captain Andrew Strauss and head coach Andy Flower. John Amaechi, the first UK-born player to play in the US National Basketball Association, received an OBE for his work as trustee and patron of the UK Sport's Charity International Development through Sport.

Golfer Lee Westwood; National Trust head of archaeology Dr David Thackray; and former director of science at the Natural History Musuem Professor Richard Lane secured OBEs. OBEs were also bestowed upon Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust chief executive William Ferris; Liverpool Biennial chief executive and artistic director Lewis Biggs; and Dr Keith Howard, the philanthropist and benefactor of Yorkshire County Cricket Club's museum.

Meanwhile, there were MBEs for Sheffield International Venues chief executive Stephen Brailey; England cricketer Alistair Cook; and athletes Jessica Ennis and Phillips Idowu. Celtic Manor Resort director of golf and head greenkeeper James McKenzie; fundraising director at the National Trust, Gill Raikes; and former director of volunteering at the Art Fund, Leigh Spiers, also received MBEs.

Elsewhere, an MBE was awarded to Terence Spiers for services to museums and heritage, having formerly served at a range of attractions and sector agencies. Horse racing trainer Henry Cecil has been awarded a Knighthood, while there were CBEs for English Heritage chief executive Dr Simon Thurley; managing director of the London Symphony Orchestra, Kathryn McDowell; and National Portrait Gallery director Sandy Nairne.
