Live entertainment representatives lobby Gambling Review Board
Representatives of more than 100,000 entertainers and operators have written to the chair of the government's Gambling Review Board to lobby for a change in the law banning live entertainment at casinos. A letter was sent to Sir Alan Budd, the Gambling Board Review's chair, asking for the ban, introduced in the 1960s, to be lifted as it was costing many job opportunities and stifling the industry. Rank, due to open its first Hard Rock casino in Manchester later this year, also signed the petition hoping that the law can be changed to allow live music at its music-themed casino. The review of the UK gambling laws, launched by the Home Secretary in 1999, is expected to be completed at the end of June and will examine not only the current state of the gaming industry, but also potential development for the next 10 years.
