London City Racecourse enquiry to be held in May
Architect, Foster & Partners, has announced that the proposed design for Wiggins Group's new London City Racecourse, will be examined during a four-week long public enquiry in May 2001. The company says the proposed racecourse could accommodate 20,000 spectators, with up to 10,000 taking advantage of the facilities offered within the grandstand and a large proportion of those outside remaining under cover. The stables will be positioned directly opposite the grandstand enabling spectators to be able to see the horses being led to the parade ring, which is located in a natural amphitheatre in front of the grandstand. Other facilities on site will include a pub, restaurant, creche and fitness centre. A judgement on the proposals is expected in September 2001; if successful, the racecourse will open in the autumn of 2003.
