McDonald's opens its first hotel
McDonald's has just launched its first hotel in the Swiss town of Rümlang. The 211-bed Golden Arch Hotel is situated close to Zurich airport and heralds the start of McDonald's foray into the hotel industry. Marketed at business users in the week and families at the weekend, the four-star Golden Arch Hotel provides guests with motorised rotating beds, a high-speed 'infotainment' multi-media system offering low-priced internet access, and, as expected, a McDonald's restaurant. The concept is the brainchild of the head of McDonald's Switzerland, Urs Hammer, who is rolling out the concept across the country. Hammer hopes the hotels will continue 'the spirit of McDonald's hospitality philosophy.' CEO of the McDonald's Corporation, Jack Greenberg, views Hammer's concept as a way forward for the company: We need innovations like these. The Golden Arch Hotels are a promising expansion of our McDonald's family. Later this month the second Golden Arch Hotel opens in the town of Lully, bringing investment in the two hotels to £21m, and a third site is in the planning stages at Geneva airport.
