Museum visits show decline
Although museums and galleries are among the most popular attractions, attendance levels are declining slightly, according to a MORI poll. Commissioned by Resource: The Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries, the research showed that 28 per cent of the UK public had visited a museum or gallery in the 12 months prior to the survey, which was undertaken in 1999. Although this is a healthy figure, it does show a slight decline (around 7 per cent) which is attributed to more competition for leisure time with activities like the Internet, computer games, eating out and Sunday shopping. The survey also suggests that the decrease in domestic holidays will have a knock on effect as people tend to visit museums while on holiday. Details: 020 7273 1453
