New woodland facilities for North Somerset
North Somerset Council (NSC) has unveiled a new woodland cycle and pedestrian path and a play area at Weston Woods near Weston-super-Mare.
The 1.5-mile (2.4km) Black Rock path - named by local residents to reflect the site's history - runs alongside Kewstoke Toll Road and is designed to fit in with the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, the play area for young people aged between eight and 13 years old has opened at the top of the woods and is the largest of the 11 sites to benefit from the government's Playbuilder initiative.
The play facility boasts a range of equipment designed and installed by Touchwood Designs, including a 40m (131ft) zip wire, a 3m (10ft) funnel net climber and wooden dens. NSC has invested £90,000 in the development of both facilities, with nearly £58,000 contributed by the Forestry Commission. Section 106 agreements also provided funding.
