Telford & Wrekin Council have announced that Newport Swimming Pool, in Shropshire, England, will be expanded with a new health and fitness facility.

The £1m project will see an extension of the existing pool building to create a new fitness facility, which will be fitted with 50 Cybex stations.

The pool changing rooms will also be refurbished with a unisex area planned with improved facilities for families and disabled users.

The project is being funded through a Council 'Invest to Save' initiative which councillor Liz Clare has hailed as "a good example of how the council can improve its services for the community and at the same time generate income as apposed to making cuts."

Telford-based construction firm, Pryce Builders, have been appointed contractors for the project and work is scheduled to begin next month through to the end of December.
