Plan for tree-rich city areas.
A wave of woodland planting is planned across towns and cities in England after the National Urban Forestry Unit (NUFU) won grants totalling almost £1m.
Grants from organisations such as the Onyx Environmental Trust and the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund will kick start tree planting programmes in inner city areas such as London's Newham and Thamesmead and alongside motorways.
Trees have a vital role to play in the life and sustainability of our towns and cities, said Nerys Jones, NUFU chief executive.
The NUFU plans a 'mosaic of small woodlands' to help 'dramatically increase woodland cover' across urban areas. As a charity working for a tree-rich environment, the NUFU hopes the scheme will improve the lives of people living and working in towns.
