Play England – the newly-established five-year strategy run by the Children's Play Council to develop regular access to free children's play opportunities across the country – has announced that nine regional managers have been put in place to lead the scheme.

The managers will have the primary responsibility for supporting local areas and authorities develop play strategies for their communities – an essential requirement for securing funding earmarked by the Big Lottery Fund's Children's Play programme.

Working in partnership with local deliverers, the managers will be required to identify the areas of greatest need to help target investment from Play England.

Stuart Douglas, Play England assistant director responsible for the regional development, said: "This is the latest milestone toward creating a lasting support structure for play providers in England.

"The regional managers are a dynamic team of play, children's sector and local government specialists, who will be working on the ground supporting local areas. This is an unprecedented time for the play sector, which we hope will benefit generations of children to come." Details: www.playengland.org.uk
