Pontypridd park plans go on display
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council's (RCTCBC) plans to revamp Pontypridd's Ynysangharad War Memorial Park have been put on public display.
At the heart of the proposals is the restoration of the park's 80-year-old, Grade II-listed lido, which is set to boast a children's pool and the rejuvenation of external features to its original 1920s designs. Detailed plans - including riverside gardens, a new and extended play area and a civic square - have been drawn up with the help of £50,000 funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
The HLF grant, which was awarded as part of the Parks for People initiative, has enabled the council to complete planning works and develop an extensive Conservation Management Plan. Penarth-based Soltys Brewster Consulting and architects Powell Dobson have been involved with developing the plans, which also include a restaurant area and a new horticultural centre.
RCTCBC leader Russell Roberts said: "Our plans are ambitious, and if further support can be provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund we firmly believe we can make our vision a reality, but additional external funding will be key in making this happen."
