RAF Cosford in Shropshire, which encompasses the RAF School of Physical Training, has teamed up with Central YMCA Qualifications (CYQ) to increase the vocational skills of its staff.

RAF Cosford trains physical education officers and physical training instructors. Now, for the first time, trainees graduating as physical training instructors also achieve the CYQ Certificate in Personal Training.

Sgt Andrea Goodall says: “The Basic Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) syllabus has recently been re-written and the Personal Trainers Award Level 3 has formed an integral part of this.

“The Basic PTIs now graduate with a highly respected civilian qualification, which, in conjunction with the rest of the syllabus, provides them with an extensive knowledge base and sets them up for their careers in the RAF.”
