With the licensing of SkillsActive as the Sector Skills Council for the UK last year, the Register of Exercise Professionals has begun to take on more responsibility to be the largest qualification-based register operating across the whole of the UK.

According to the REPs, it already has a considerable number of members from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. As members, they all automatically benefit from the REPs’ independent, objective registration process for exercise professionals, while their devolved governments are informed of their respective skills issues.

There have also been a number of significant developments in further establishing the REPs across the UK. Recent meetings have been held in Northern Ireland as part of the Level 3 standards review and in addition, representatives of the Welsh Assembly have been involved in similar meetings.

“It is important that the REPs can reflect both regional and national pictures and inform on how resources can be targeted to provide exercise professionals and employers with the skills they need to face increasing challenges and opportunities within the fitness industry,” said REPs registrar, Cliff Collins.

The analysis of the REPs database is already providing comprehensive and compelling evidence on the status of the industry.
