Sport England has announced that a new chief executive of the organisation has been appointed, and will start in April 2007.

Jennie Price is a barrister by training, and is currently the chief executive of WRAP – the Water and Resources Action Programme – which was established in 2000 to improve recycling performance and reduce waste.

Before joining WRAP, Price worked in the construction industry for nearly 20 years, as a lawyer, then with the Major Contractors Group and the Construction Confederation.

Her extensive management experience and dealings with the government – she is a member of the joint DTI/Defra environmental innovations advisory group and has had involvement with the government's sustainable procurement task force – will be valued by the organisation, said chair, Derek Mapp.

"I am delighted Jennie Price has accepted the role of CEO of Sport England," Mapp said.

"She will bring to the organisation both her experience of working in a tough industry and in setting up a government programme from scratch and exceeding the challenging targets she was set."
