Sport Leeds has unveiled a group of Sport Leeds Champions to act as role models for young people and raise the profile of sport in the city.

The Sport Leeds Champions have been selected based on their performance and contribution to sport in Leeds and include Cathy Mitton (table tennis), Mick Hill (athletics), Sam Michael Allen (athletics), Jonathan Kennedy (cycling) and Tom Biggs (rugby).

Dave Heddon, chair of Sport Leeds, said that the role of the champions would be to act as ambassadors for the organisation within the region by attending events, influencing young people’s attitudes towards sport and raising the profile of sport in Leeds.

“We hope that by having local sporting personalities as role models will raise the profile of the initiative and encourage young people to take part in sport and active recreation,” he said.
