Aberystwyth has been highlighted by the Cricket Board of Wales (CBW) action plan as the ideal venue for an outdoor Centre of Excellence.
The project has been offered a grant of £45,617 by the Sports Council for Wales regional SPORTLOT panel - 80 per cent of the cost. The money will pay for the construction of four outdoor artificial cricket nets.
The Sports Council has also granted £168,569 to expand Rhyl Adventure Playground to include a new two-court, multi-use games area for football, basketball, tennis and netball.
The project aims to create sporting opportunities for youngsters in a socially disadvantaged area.
£25,000 of the grant will be used to develop sports activities over the next three years.
