Starbucks opens in Austria
Starbucks Coffee International has opened its first coffee house in Vienna, Austria.
Situated in the centre of old Vienna next to the Vienna Opera House, and it is aimed at young people who are looking for something more modern than the traditional Austrian coffee house.
Starbucks plans to open 10 to 15 coffee houses in Austria over the next 12 to 18 months as part of a joint venture with the Swiss food trade company Bon Appétit Group, signed in July.
Vienna, a city celebrated as Austria's coffee capital, is a perfect home for Starbucks, said chairman and chief global strategist, Howard Schultz. We are very mindful of the Viennese coffee tradition, but the high level of interest leading up to the opening of this first coffee house makes us believe Austrians will welcome Starbucks to Vienna.
Starbucks opened its first Switzerland store in March this year, and plans to open further stores in Spain and Germany by spring 2002.
