Wagamama plans to double estate over next 12 months
Noodle chain Wagamama, is planning to double its UK portfolio of restaurants in the next year, and has plans to expand overseas. Wagamama has already signed leases on three more London sites and is in negotiations to secure a further seven sites across the country. With eight existing London restaurants, Wagamama opened its first national site in Manchester last year and its second in Nottingham last month. Now chief executive Ian Neill is planning to move into Europe and the United States, including the difficult New York market that competitor Belgo has just pulled out of. With successful franchised sites in Dublin and Amsterdam, Neill believes that franchising is the way forward for overseas expansion: We will only go with proven, successful restaurateurs, he told the Evening Standard.
