Leisure group Whitbread has confirmed that it has received multiple offers for its David Lloyd Leisure (DLL) chain of health and fitness clubs.

A Whitbread spokesperson said: “The board confirms that it has received a number of unsolicited approaches to acquire the business.

“These are in the early stages of being evaluated and we would like to make it clear that no decision to sell DLL has been made.”

According to some analysts, it is believed that four parties are interested in the chain – Next Generation (owned by London & Regional), LA Fitness (MidOcean partners), Esporta (Simon Halabi) and the property company Criterion Capital.

David Lloyd Leisure runs 72 sites, 53 of which are owned by Whitbread. The rest are leased by the business.
