London's Pleasure Gardens, a major new 60,000sq m (645,835sq ft) arts and entertainment destination for the capital, is to open on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend next June.

The project, which aims to establish the capital's newest cultural attraction, was named as the Mayor of London and Newham Council's 'Meanwhile London' competition.

It is hoped the project will act as a catalyst for further regeneration of the Royal Docks, while also celebrating the capital's diversity and supporting the cultural legacy of London 2012.

Located within the Olympic Red Zone opposite ExCeL, London's Pleasure Gardens will lead to the transformation of Pontoon Dock into a new destination for Londoners and tourists.

Facilities will include a 36,000sq m (387,501sq ft) outdoor live events space; water attractions such as a floating cinema; a boutique art hotel and restaurant; and a multi-arts dome venue.

The Hub night gallery and dance arena; the wilderness meadow and beach; sculpture gardens; a children's climbing area; and an adults' playground are also planned as part of the project.

Arts Council England; the London Development Agency; and Design for London are among the partners, along with Create, the London 2012 cultural liaison for the five host boroughs.

The Royal Institute of British Architects are also a partner of the London's Pleasure Gardens development, which will help showcase the capital's and the UK's creative talent.

Deborah Armstrong, the scheme's creative director, said: "We will champion local talent and celebrate the incredible melting pot of creativity that is alive and kicking in London every day.

"London's Pleasure Gardens will bring together real talents across music, art, food, fashion and film, give them a spiritual and physical home, while showcasing the very best of London's creative communities to the world."
