Nuffield Health's fitness and wellbeing centre in Norbury, which was forced to close due to an arson attack during last summer's London riots, is to relaunch its doors on 26 January.

It had been feared the facility would never reopen following the incident, although months of work and an additional £40,000 investment has brought it back into use for local residents.

The owner of a Croydon furniture store destroyed during the riots will help mark the reopening of the Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre.

The venue will offer more than 100 pieces of equipment from Life Fitness and Concept and a new physiotherapy treatment room, as well as a downstairs seating area.

A new personal training area has also been created as part of the refurbishment, which boasts Escape equipment, TRX machines, ViPR medicine balls, kettlebells and Swiss balls.

Nuffield Health general manager Lee Seamons said: "The gym has been a focal point for the health and fitness of the local community for almost 20 years.

"We received so many letters of support following the riots, and the team were determined to get the club back up and running as soon as possible."
