NEMO launches South Caucasus museum training programme
A new training programme is being launched across the countries of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the aim of contributing to the development of the museum sector in that region.
Led by the Georgian Museum Association (GMA), the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) and the Academy of Cultural Management (ACM), the programme will provide training exclusively for museum staff in the region, particularly around strengthening leadership and management skills to respond to 21st-century museum challenges.
Called 'Be Museumer', the scheme will provide training events and seven webinars within the project timeframe of three years and is funded by Creative Europe.
Museum professionals will conduct research on museum spaces in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan as part of their training
"Be Museumer will help in creating an advanced, inclusive and diverse museum work environment in the whole South Caucasus region as well as a stronger connection between museums in Europe and Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan," said NEMO secretary general Julia Pagel.
GMA director Inga Karaia added: "Be Museumer will be an interesting and useful platform for young museum professionals from all three countries and that it will strengthen the idea of founding the International Museum Study Centre at Tbilisi State Academy of Art."
The programme’s first training event takes place today (27 February) and runs until Friday (1 March).
