In this role, you will assist the Duty Managers and Supervisors in the efficient and effective safe day to day operation of the pools and the Centre’s facilities & services.

It is essential you hold a RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).

Successful applicants will need to have excellent customer service and communication skills and be enthusiastic with a positive attitude and approach to working at a very busy leisure centre.

Ideal Candidate

The leisure team are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with sports/leisure centre experience to fill a position as a leisure assistant.

You will be highly motivated and have the ability to deal with customers in a professional and friendly manner, be able to competently supervise and control a busy fitness suite environment and when required act as a lifeguard and climbing wall instructor.

You will be trained as a YMCA level 2 Fitness Instructor, or equivalent, be NPLQ or equivalent qualified, have a Climbing Wall Leading Award/Single Pitch Award or higher with experience working in a climbing wall and have a valid 1st aid at work certificate.

Exceptional candidates will be considered and trained without the relevant lifeguard and climbing wall qualifications but must be able to attain both.

The candidate will have good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to use basic Microsoft Office packages, have used leisure management systems as well as being numerate and have basic cash handling knowledge.

The role will require the successful candidate to work evenings and weekends, and a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.

1. JOB PURPOSE AND MAIN AIMS

To participate in the supervision of wet and dry activities and assist in the provision of a quality service to the customer as well as to ensure that quality standards are maintained throughout the Centre.

2. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a) To undertake general supervision of customers and their activities, ensuring that all centre rules are observed and to take action where appropriate.
b) To ensure the Health and Safety procedures are observed throughout the centre and report any risks, serious incidents and injuries to staff or customers to the Assistant Manager.
c) To follow the Normal Operating Procedures and carry out any action as detailed in the Emergency Action Plan.
d) To carry out first aid as necessary.
e) To undertake cleaning duties and set up and dismantle equipment as required.
f) To lifeguard the pool in accordance with the rota arrangements when on poolside. To carry out rescues and life-saving techniques as necessary.
g) To report abnormal pool conditions to the Assistant Manager on duty, i.e. colour and clarity of the water, odour etc.
h) To assist customers and ensure customers enjoy a quality experience while at the centre.
i) Undertake coaching, instruction as required.

3. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE (SELECTION CRITERIA)

We are seeking a highly motivated, confident individual, with the ability to inspire and deliver exceptional results to join our team at Becky Adlington's SwimStars.

You will deliver the coordination of the Learn to Swim provision and be part of a team inspiring thousands of children to swim every week. You will drive standards of teaching across a team of teachers, whilst actively teaching for a minimum of 20hrs per week.
