Job description:
Position Summary:
Gathers in-park and competitive data and distributes analysis. Performs administrative and operational tasks for department. Utilizes knowledge of department and company to facilitate projects, communications and tasks. Responsible for coordinating select programs as assigned and developing systems, methods, and procedures for managing flow of communications and work products.

1. Primary Responsibility: Research Role: *Primary Responsibility*: Conduct a daily quota of surveys with LEGOLAND Guests that measure, but are not limited to; Source of residency, Guest demographics, Guest experience, return on investment, etc. on a regular basis. Tabulate/ code “open-ended” survey responses in Microsoft Excel as needed.

2. Secondary Responsibility: Research Role: Assist in collecting guest data for Capital Expenditure research projects, focus groups, and ad hoc research assignments on an as-needed basis, to measure reactions/ interest in future attractions, theming, product awareness, park events, etc.. Manages upkeep of data collection tools including handhelds. Checks reports to assure data is transferring accordingly. Work with Research Lead in identifying materials necessary to execute effective research such as office supplies, incentives and additional technology. Perform other duties as assigned.

3. Tertiary Responsibility: Administrative Role: Filter through charitable Donation Requests, deny or approve requests based on predetermined criteria, fulfill/ mail donation ticket packages. Assist with administrative functions on an as needed basis for the Marketing and Sales team such as filing, mailing prep, copy-making, and fulfillment of gift packages.

4. Quaternary Responsibility: Logistics and Operational Support: Provide interdepartmental support on an as-needed basis to Public Relations, Community Relations, Events, Hotel, Education, etc. Provide clerical and logistical assistance for special events as assigned. Escort visitors and guests as requested.

Background and Experience
Education and/or experience in marketing, communications, research or related field desired. Experience in an entertainment/theme park/retail environment preferred. Requires excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive and supportive working relationships, and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to maintain an approachable and friendly demeanor with competing priorities and demands and take direction and work effectively with department staff members and diverse work styles.

This position requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Effective organizational and problem solving skills with the ability to set-up, automate and track contacts, data and information required. Person must be flexible, adaptable, responsive, and able to multi-task and prioritize effectively

Must be able to self-initiate activities, coordinate tasks, and exhibit strong project management skills with strong attention to detail and follow-up skills. Strong typing and computer skills, such as Microsoft Office products and other PC software required. Knowledge of office support functions and market research software preferred.

High school diploma or general education degree (or equivalent education and experience) is required. College course work in Marketing, Communications or Research desired. Bachelor’s Degree in research, marketing, communications or a related field (or equivalent education and experience) is preferred.

Work Environment:
Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures, floor surfaces, and noise levels.

Costume Character Open Call Tuesday January 29

Position Summary:
The Costume Character will serve as an easily recognizable “signature” representation of LEGOLAND California. Entertains guests and promotes LEGOLAND California on a daily basis throughout the park and at periodic off- site special events.

Scope and Responsibilities:
- Provides entertainment, amusement, and interactive activities for guests at LEGOLAND California by taking every opportunity to interact with guests throughout the park. Exceeds guest service expectation.
- Represents LEGOLAND California in the best manner possible by maintaining the integrity and artistic value of all presentations when performing in the park and on special events.
- Performs in a full body costume for upwards of 40 minutes at a time. Performance includes stationary meet & greets and/or dancing.
- Acts as a costume character escort, becoming the eyes, ears and voice of the character and building the relationship between character and guest.
- Communicates with the Entertainment and Events Departments regarding the maintenance, care, and storage of all costumes.
- Informs Lead or Supervisor of any problems, concerns or delays that may occur.
- Follows all park, departmental, and facility procedures.
- Cooperates with all Entertainment and park Model Citizens.
- Learns and performs other roles and duties as required.

Background and Experience:
Previous Costume Character experience is preferred. Experience in customer service field is required. Ability to move in and withstand wearing hot and heavy costume for up to 40 minutes at a time is necessary. Demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity. Requires the ability to skillfully and effectively communicate solely through action. Timeliness, thoroughness and the ability to adapt to situational changes is required. Dance and/or movement training is preferred. Due to scale demands of costume, applicant size must fit the dimensions of the costume, including being between 5’ 1” and 5’ 6” in height.

As a Ride Operations Associate, your role is to ensure our guests safely enjoy our attractions.

As a Model Citizen (employee) at LEGOLAND California Resort, your purpose is to provide memorable experiences to our guests. Guests travel from all around the world to make memories with their families and our job is to help those come to life. Each Model Citizen, regardless of which department they work in or which position they hold, is required to understand and focus on our main guest expectations, which are as follows:

* Focus on Children – Our key age demographic is children ages 2-12. Because of this, children are the primary reason anyone is visiting the park. It is our job to engage them and make them feel special.

* Take care of each guest as an individual – A lot of planning and cost goes into taking a family trip to a theme park. Each of our guests deserves to feel special and like they are the most important guest at the park. It’s our job to treat each guest as if they are the first guest we’ve seen all day and take ownership to solve any guest difficulties we encounter.

* Be knowledgeable – It is imperative for each Model Citizen to be knowledgeable and learn the answers to the frequently asked questions in their area of the park. Guests view each employee as a representative of LEGOLAND and a resource for any assistance they need throughout their day.

Scope & Responsibilities:
- Learn and follow detailed ride operating procedures listed in Standard Operating Procedures manuals
- Strong verbal communication skills to instruct guests and maintain effective communication with other ride operators
- Work effectively in busy environments with high noise levels
- Work effectively under pressure in situations such as ride breakdowns or upset guests
- Maintain a high level of focus to ensure safe operation
- Comfortable speaking to guests both one-on-one and in groups using a public address system
- Check rider height and screen for other riding restrictions
- Ensure all safety policies, rules and procedures are followed at all times
- Physically check ride restraints (seat belts, lap bars, doors, etc.)
- Utilize ride controls to operate ride (send vehicles in motion, start ride cycle, stop ride cycle, lock lap bars, etc.)
- Assist guests utilizing passes, such as disability access passes
- Follow set procedures during ride breakdowns, including proper guest communication and carrying out ride evacuation
- Maintain basic cleanliness and order of ride queues, storage areas, and play areas

- Must speak English fluently.

- The earliest shifts in the Rides & Attractions department can begin as early as 8:15am. The latest shifts in the Rides & Attractions department can end as late as 8:45pm.

Maintains organization of SEA LIFE areas. Works as part of a team with other facilitators.  Maintains training and skills for all education programs. Maintains organization and readiness of SEA LIFE areas. Communicates SEA LIFE and Merlin Entertainment values of creativity, discovery, exuberance, and innovation to groups and regular guests and facilitates the unstructured guest experience by encouraging, interacting, and demonstrating.


General Aquarium Operations
- Works in a team rotation with turnstiles, ticket booths, touch pools, and various other experienced throughout the experience.
- Encourages guest participation and interaction in SEA LIFE.
- Inspires children by playing with props and demonstrating possibilities of the materials, if applicable, while maintaining an open-ended approach.
- Floats within area and directly communicates with guests by greeting, explaining, demonstrating.  Is alert to guests need for assistance and independence.
- Facilitates public talks using public announce systems and microphones.
- Shows ownership of responsibility for area and materials.  Maintains logs for attendance, incidents, materials repair, etc.
- Ensures aquariums are clean, organized and ready to open on a daily basis. Assist in clearing the building for closing.

Instructor for Children and Families
- Establishes immediate rapport and communicates well with children, families, and school groups.    
      - Maintains order and structure and facilitates investigative learning, while maintaining atmosphere of discovery, creativity, and playfulness. Enjoys performing.        
   - Listens to and accepts feedback.  Reflects understanding of feedback.
- Maintains excellent knowledge of all hands-on program content, and is thoroughly familiar with aquarium displays and species, in order to reference and recommend extended learning.
- Maintains meticulous organization of SEA LIFE area and materials.
- Informally surveys teacher and child satisfaction with program, communicates suggestions.  Gives input regarding programs’ strength and weakness.  Encourages school guests to complete satisfaction surveys.

Animal Care
- Maintains safety and well-being of all animals, in touch pools specifically, while in and out of tanks.
- Able to make decisions to provide the best environment for every animal and is comfortable dealing with aquatic excrements and smells for long periods of time.

Organizational Skills
- Shows ownership of responsibility for area and materials.  Maintains logs for attendance, incidents, materials repair, etc. 
- Supervises orderly clean-up of materials, and checks  that materials are complete and ready for next group.
- Makes suggestions for improvements in procedures to increase efficiency and guest satisfaction.  Runs groups on time to ensure quality and integrity of program.
- Maintains overall cleanliness and beautification of SEA LIFE, including, but not limited to, sweeping, stocking the restrooms, and helping pick up trash.


Background and Experience
- Experience with teaching or guiding children recommended.  Demonstrated ability to manage group in a relaxed manner is recommended. 
- Requires the ability to multi-task and have a flexible, calm and effective response to conflicts or difficult interpersonal situations. 
- Quick, flexible learner who enjoys children.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint helps. 
- Experience with science curriculum and/or biology or marine biology a plus.  Requires enthusiastic presentation skills and willingness to learn content.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is recommended. College education, teaching experience,  knowledge of child development a plus.

Other Requirements
- Ability to sit for sustained periods of time to attend on-site and off-site meetings and complete paperwork activities.
- Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the aquarium and interact with employees.
- Ability to keep hands and arms in salt and freshwater for long periods of time while interacting with guests.
- Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.  Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
