A seriously social – thank you

10 Jun 2024

Community Leisure UK would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to their members who took part in the first ever Seriously Social week.

Held in May, the national campaign showcased the work of charities and social enterprises putting people above profit, connecting communities and helping people to become healthier, happier and more creative, regardless of age or ability.

Each day a different theme highlighted the difference charitable trusts and social enterprises make to Health & Wellbeing, Environment, Inclusion, Community and Employment & Skills.

Kirsty Cumming, CEO of Community Leisure UK, said: “I was both thrilled and delighted by the backing of our membership for this campaign. It was wonderful to see all the statistics, programme innovation, case studies and difference they make through Seriously Social. This campaign was ultimately about explaining that our sector’s USP is about putting people above profit for social good. And I think it did that extremely well. We’ll be sharing the evaluation with members in due course but in the meantime, we just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’. It was a great success only because our members made it so and got behind it.”

The week was wrapped up with jaw-dropping Social Value figures from 4Global which show Community Leisure UK members saved the state and NHS £893million in 2023 through their work getting people more active and healthier.

Phil Rumbelow, Chair of Community Leisure UK, said: “Making social change for the better, regardless of whether it makes a profit is at the very heart of charitable trusts and social enterprises. But sometimes as a sector we don’t shout loud enough about why we are so great. Seriously Social allowed us to wrap all that great work up together and really drive home the message.”

The website will remain open to showcase all the great work Community Leisure UK members do.
