Andy Bindon joins GLL as Director of Change and Values
05 Dec 2019
HR Director and Business Leader Andy Bindon has joined the UK's largest leisure and cultural charitable social enterprise – GLL.
Andy takes a new role – Director of Change and Values – designed to make GLL the best staff-owned business in the UK. GLL operates nearly 400 facilities including gyms, leisure centres, libraries and children's centres under the 'Better' brand.
Credited with transformational successes as HR Director for both Southeastern Railway and Govia Thameslink Railway, Andy is a leading expert in change management and organisational development.
He brings his skills to GLL as the successful not-for-profit refocuses its 26 year old business on its social enterprise USPs and creating a digital first customer strategy.
Of his return to GLL (Andy was GLL's HR Director from 2002 – 2008), Andy Bindon said: "It's a great time to re-join GLL as this uniquely successful charitable social enterprise looks positively to the future and the opportunities presented in a digital world.
"My role is about the '3 C's' – Challenge, Change and Customer Focus.
"The strategic direction we are taking needs strong support from our brilliant staff who are key advocates for the business, living and breathing our ethical values.
"I want to capture and focus the diverse talents of our 14,000 strong workforce to ensure each and every member can best support GLL's social purpose."
GLL MD Mark Sesnan said: "It's great to have Andy back. GLL is a lot bigger and more diverse now than when he left us and like all other leisure companies we face a huge range of significant challenges.
"To ensure our sustainability and viability we know that significant change is required. This will go alongside our drive to get back to our core values of being a Social Enterprise, a Charity and being Staff owned and led.
"In Andy we have extraordinary talent and experience that will contribute to our mission and vision – to be the best staff-owned business in the UK and the natural partner for delivery of quality community focussed leisure and cultural services."
Andy's previous responsibilities include delivering major components of the transport service for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games when HR Director at Southeastern Railway – including the iconic Javelin High Speed Rail service linking Kings Cross St Pancras with Stratford International.
Andy has a strong interest in tackling youth unemployment and creating opportunities through apprenticeships, training and development.
He has retained a position as Independent Trustee and board member at GLL since 2010.
